Consumer Court Orders ₹22 L Compensation on Muktsar hospital Surgeon & Insurer for Medical Negligence

Faridkot’s District Consumer Commission has directed Dr Sandeep Singh Sandhu, his hospital, and Oriental Insurance to jointly pay ₹22 lakh to Gurpreet Singh, a student, for medical negligence during a gallbladder surgery.

The Commission found that the surgery lacked proper consent, diagnostic clarity, and post-operative records. During the procedure, the doctor claimed a rare complication occurred, requiring a second surgery. Gurpreet later developed abdominal swelling and had to be shifted to a private hospital in Ludhiana.

The Commission noted that due to the botched treatment, Gurpreet is now unable to pursue his dream of joining the defence forces and ordered the payment within 45 days.
