A sessions court in Mumbai refused to grant bail to lawyer Vinay Kumar Khatu, who allegedly cheated his client out of ₹2.57 crore by giving her fake Bombay High Court orders.
The court noted that Khatu had past criminal cases for pretending to be an IAS officer and said granting him bail would send the wrong message. The client believed the fake court papers and transferred money to individuals linked to Khatu.
The fraud came to light when his client took a second legal opinion. The court held that Khatu misused his professional position as a lawyer, and the case was too serious for bail.
