The Ministry of Civil Aviation has released draft Aircraft (Demolition of Obstructions) Rules, 2025, following the Air India crash near Ahmedabad.
The draft rules authorise the Director General of Civil Aviation and airport authorities to identify and order the demolition or height reduction of buildings, trees, and other structures that exceed permissible height limits in airport zones.
Property owners will be issued notices and must respond within 60 days. If found in violation, they must comply with removal orders within another 60 days.
The Ministry has invited public objections and suggestions within 20 days of the draft's publication.
