New EU Design Protection Rules

The EU(European Union) is updating its Design Protection Rules which will be effective from December 8, 2024, with full implementation by July 2026. These rules will cover digital designs and 3D printed items, and allow using spare parts without breaking design laws.

The changes simplify design protection for small businesses, promote fair competition in spare parts, and clarify design rights.

The new laws have been approved, and EU countries need to update their laws by the end of 2027 to ensure everyone follows the same rules.
