A lawyer representing the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has been served a show-cause notice after his remark questioning “why people leave home early without work” while defending NHAI in a Madhya Pradesh High Court hearing on a massive 40‑hour traffic jam that reportedly claimed three lives on the Indore‑Dewas bypass.
NHAI clarified the lawyer’s statement did not reflect its official stance, noting the remark was unauthorised.
The MP High Court has also issued notices to NHAI and several authorities, including the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and local police, seeking accountability and remedial measures.
