Nine Tamil Nadu Policemen Sentenced to Death in Sathankulam Custodial Killing Case

The Madurai Sessions Court has sentenced nine Tamil Nadu policemen to death for the 2020 custodial killings of P. Jayaraj and his son, J. Bennix.

Deeming the case "rarest of rare," the court found the officers guilty of false arrest and brutal overnight torture. The verdict follows a rigorous CBI investigation which revealed deliberate violence and evidence tampering by the accused.

Judge G. Muthukumaran emphasized that such state-sponsored brutality undermines public trust and warrants the highest punishment.
