No Fresh Notification Needed to Treat Vijayawada ACB as Police Station After State Bifurcation: Supreme Court

The Supreme Court held that a fresh notification was not required to recognise the Vijayawada Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) as a police station after the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

The Court observed that the pre-bifurcation notification declaring the ACB as a police station continued to remain valid and did not lapse merely due to the creation of a new State.

It held that administrative continuity must be presumed unless expressly altered by law, and investigations conducted by the Vijayawada ACB could not be invalidated on this technical ground.

The Court accordingly rejected the challenge to the ACB’s authority.
