The Union Law Minister informed the Rajya Sabha that evening, online, and part-time LL.B. courses have not been recognised in India since the academic year 2000-2001.
The clarification was issued in response to a parliamentary query regarding the validity of alternative law degree programmes.
The Minister stated that only regular, full-time LL.B. courses approved by the Bar Council of India are eligible for recognition, as legal education requires structured classroom teaching and training.
He reiterated that degrees obtained through non-recognised modes are not valid for enrolment as advocates, and the existing regulatory position continues without any change.
