Delhi Court Summons Notary Over Suspicious Certificate Date in Dhruv Rathee Defamation Case

A Delhi Court has summoned the notary who certified a document filed by BJP leader Suresh Nakhua in his defamation suit against YouTuber Dhruv Rathee.

Rathee’s counsel objected under Section 63 of the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023, stating the certificate bore the date January 26, a gazetted holiday, and lacked a proper attestation date.

Nakhua’s lawyer claimed it was an error, and the actual certification occurred on January 27. The Court heard arguments on applications seeking dismissal of the suit. Rathee invoked the defence of truth, citing Nakhua’s public tweets. The matter will be heard next on August 8.
