Supreme Court Issues Contempt Notice to NRI Woman for Approaching US Court Against Ongoing Matrimonial Case

The Supreme Court of India issued a notice to an NRI woman for contempt of court after she approached a US Court seeking to stop the Supreme Court from proceeding in a matrimonial dispute.

The Bench noted that the woman had earlier agreed before the Court to settle the matter after receiving ₹1 crore as one-time maintenance to her and her son. 

However, after returning to the US, she filed fresh proceedings for more maintenance and sought an injunction against the Supreme Court.

The Court found her conduct contemptuous and asked her to explain why contempt action should not be taken.
