Govt Introduces Draft Registration Bill, 2025 to Enable Online Property Registration

The Ministry of Rural Development has released the draft Registration Bill, 2025, proposing a complete overhaul of the 117-year-old Registration Act, 1908.

The bill enables end-to-end online registration of immovable property and mandates the registration of key documents like agreements to sell, power of attorney, equitable mortgages, and sale certificates.

It also provides for Aadhaar-based identity verification with consent, digital maintenance of records, and electronic issuance of certificates.

The bill seeks integration with land and municipal databases to curb fraud and improve access to ownership records. Public feedback has been invited until June 25, 2025.
