Only 38 Deer to Remain in Delhi's Hauz Khas Park as Supreme Court Permits Relocation

The Supreme Court ruled that only 38 deer can be retained at the AN Jha Deer Park in Hauz Khas, New Delhi, with the remainder relocated to neighboring wildlife habitats.

The Bench accepted findings that the 10-acre park lacks the ecological capacity for its current population. The Court directed that the translocation to reserves in Rajasthan must follow strict scientific and animal welfare protocols.

Emphasizing that wildlife species should not be confined to restrictive enclosures without compelling reasons.

Additionally, the Union Environment Ministry was ordered to formalize national translocation guidelines within six months.
