OpenAI, backed by Microsoft, has moved to block Indian media giants, including Adani and Ambani’s media units, from joining a copyright lawsuit led by news agency ANI.
The case, which may shape India’s AI legal landscape, centers on allegations that OpenAI's ChatGPT unlawfully uses copyrighted content for AI training.
OpenAI argues it only uses publicly available data under fair use principles and insists Indian courts lack jurisdiction as its servers are abroad.
The company also raised concerns over media reporting based on non-public court documents. The case is set to continue in February.
