Delhi Cabinet Approves Ordinance to Curb Unfair Fee Hikes in Private Schools

The Delhi Cabinet has approved an ordinance based on the proposed Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fees) Bill, 2025, aimed at regulating arbitrary fee hikes in private unaided schools.

The ordinance empowers the government to intervene if schools increase fees without justifiable reasons or prior approval.

It provides a framework for setting up a Fee Revision Committee at the school, district, and state levels to examine complaints from parents. 

The government said this step was needed to protect families from unfair charges. The ordinance will now be sent to the Lieutenant Governor for approval before it is enforced.
