Law Doesn't Support Educated Wife Sitting Idle & Seeking Maintenance from Husband : Orissa HC

The Orissa High Court reduced the maintenance amount awarded to a wife, emphasizing that an educated wife should not remain idle and burden her husband with maintenance.

The wife, a science graduate with a Post-Graduate Diploma in Journalism, had previously worked with media houses but was currently unemployed.

The court noted that the wife had the qualifications to support herself financially, and the intention behind Section 125 of the CrPC is to support wives who are unable to maintain themselves.

Considering her qualifications and prospects, the court reduced her monthly maintenance from Rs. 8,000 to Rs. 5,000.
