Orissa High Court Slams 'Bulldozer Justice,' Orders ₹10 Lakh Compensation for Illegal Demolition

  • Case Name: Kumarpur Sasan Juba Gosti Kendra & Ors. v. State of Odisha and Ors.

The Orissa High Court strongly criticised the unlawful demolition of a community centre in Balipur village, Cuttack, calling it “bulldozer justice” and a “covert operation” violating Article 300A. of the Constitution.

The structure, built in 1985 on grazing land and renovated using MLA-LAD funds, was razed on December 14 despite pending litigation and a High Court stay.

The Court directed ₹10 lakh in compensation: ₹2 lakh to be deducted from the responsible tehsildar’s salary and ₹8 lakh to be paid by the State within eight weeks.

Disciplinary proceedings are to be initiated, and fresh guidelines issued to prevent future misuse of demolition powers.
