Patiala House Court, Delhi Directs De-indexing of ED Case Articles, Recognizing ‘Right to Be Forgotten’

The Patiala house court has upheld an individual’s “right to be forgotten” and directed Google, India Kanoon, and several media houses to remove or de-index online articles linking him to the Moser Baer money laundering case.

The bench noted that continued access to such reports harms personal dignity and serves no public interest once an individual has been discharged. It was observed that the permanence of digital records unfairly revives past allegations despite the plaintiff’s exoneration.

The Court ordered all defendants to block or delete URLs identified in the suit until the case is finally decided.
