Petition filed in Telangana High Court Challenging ₹3,500 Fee for AIBE Exam

Petition filed in Telangana High Court Challenging ₹3,500 Fee for AIBE Exam

  • Case Name: Vijay Gopal v. Bar Council of India & Ors.
  • Judge(s): Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy

Advocate Vijay Gopal filed a petition arguing that the AIBE fee is excessively high, and contradicts the SC ruling that caps enrollment and exam fees.

He argued that the AIBE fee should not impose such a high fee beyond the enrollment fee already collected under Section 24(1)(f) of the Advocates Act, 1961.

Recently, SC in the case of Gaurav Kumar vs Union of India, decided that fees set by the State Bar Councils and the BCI must adhere to statutory limits. The enrollment fee is ₹750 for general candidates and ₹125 for SC/ST candidates.

It was argued that the BCI fee for the AIBE is nearly 400% higher than the enrollment fee, lacks a legislative foundation and infringes on rights protected under Article 14 of the Constitution.

The case is scheduled for a hearing on November 27, where the BCI will present its response.
