Petition in Supreme Court Seeks Removal of IPS Ajay Pal Sharma as Election Observer

A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking the removal of Uttar Pradesh cadre IPS officer Ajay Pal Sharma as an election observer for the West Bengal polls.

The petitioner alleges a lack of neutrality and cites a viral video where Sharma, also known as an "encounter specialist," allegedly threatened a Trinamool Congress candidate.

The plea claims these actions violate the Model Code of Conduct.

While a similar petition was moved before the Calcutta High Court, the court declined urgent intervention until after the final polling phase on April 29. The Supreme Court case is currently awaiting listing.
