Contempt Plea in Supreme Court Accuses Delhi High Court of Ignoring Senior Advocate Designation Norms

A contempt petition has been filed in the Supreme Court against the Registrar General and other officials of the Delhi High Court.

The petition alleges deliberate defiance of the Supreme Court’s 2023 judgment in the Indira Jaising case, which established comprehensive, objective, and transparent criteria for designating Senior Advocates.

The petitioner contends that the High Court has failed to implement these mandatory procedural reforms, effectively perpetuating an opaque and arbitrary selection system.

The plea seeks action for contempt of court, asking the apex court to enforce its earlier directives and ensure a fair, merit-based designation process.
