The Punjab & Haryana High Court has cleared the release of a Zee5 documentary originally titled Lawrence of Punjab, provided the platform removes specific names from its title.
The Court set aside a Central government advisory that had stalled the release following concerns from the Punjab Police regarding public order. The Court concluded that the documentary did not glorify crime; instead, it conveyed that a gangster's life is short and destructive.
To ensure compliance, the Bench ordered that the title, posters, and trailers must not contain the words "Lawrence," "Bishnoi," or "Punjab."
This ruling balances creative freedom with the state's duty to maintain public harmony.
