PIL in Bombay High Court Seeks Cancer Warning on Alcohol Bottles

A public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Bombay High Court demanding mandatory cancer warning labels on alcohol bottles.

Filed by activist Yash Chilwar, the plea highlights that the World Health Organization (WHO) classifies alcohol as a Class I carcinogen (a substance capable of causing cancer), yet consumers remain unaware of its cancer risks. 

The petition argues that clear warnings, like those in Ireland and South Korea, are essential for public awareness.

It urges the Central and State governments, along with the FSSAI, to enforce labelling regulations, emphasizing consumers' right to complete product information.

The Court has yet to decide on the matter.
