PIL in Madras High Court Seeks Guidelines to Regulate Media Reporting on Aviation Accident Coverage

A Public Interest Litigation has been filed in the Madras High Court seeking guidelines to curb speculative media reporting after aviation accidents.

Filed by Coimbatore-based advocate M Pravin, the plea urges the Centre, DGCA, and MeitY to regulate coverage that may harm the reputations of deceased pilots and distress victims' families.

Citing the June 12 Air India crash in Ahmedabad, the petition criticises the premature blame placed on pilots. It argues that unverified reporting undermines investigations and violates Articles 14, 19(1)(a), and 21.

Despite submitting a representation on July 14, no action has been taken. The matter may be heard next week.
