A Public Interest Litigation has been filed in the Delhi High Court challenging multiple FIRs lodged in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand over posters and banners reading “I Love Muhammad”.
The petition, filed by Shujaat Ali of Raza Academy and the Muslim Students Organisation of India, alleges that the FIRs were communally motivated and violate rights to free expression, religion, equality, and personal liberty.
The plea claims that the posters were part of religious celebrations during the Mila-un-Nabi festival and that the criminal cases improperly criminalise peaceful devotion.
