Plea in Delhi Court Seeks FIR Against Sonia Gandhi Over Inclusion in Electoral Roll Before Indian Citizenship

A petition has been filed in a Delhi court seeking an FIR against Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, alleging she was illegally included in the electoral roll before acquiring Indian citizenship. 

The plea filed by one Vikas Tripathi has alleged that Gandhi's name was included in the electoral roll of the New Delhi constituency in 1980 even though she became a citizen of India only in April 1983.

The court will examine whether there is sufficient evidence to proceed with a criminal investigation. It revived a long-standing political controversy around Gandhi’s citizenship status.

The Court said that the matter will be considered again next week.
