Plea in Karnataka HC Challenges Govt’s Move to Invite Banu Mushtaq as Dasara Chief Guest

A petition has been filed in the Karnataka High Court challenging the State government’s decision to invite Booker Prize winner Banu Mushtaq as Chief Guest for the Mysuru Dasara inauguration.

BJP MP Prathap Simha argued the move disregards religious sentiments, long-standing traditions, and the royal family’s historic role in the festival.

Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar and Pramoda Devi Wadiyar also opposed the decision.

The plea, invoking Articles 25 and 26, claimed Dasara is a religious-cultural event and alleged Mushtaq’s past remarks make her nomination divisive. The matter is likely to be heard on Monday.
