Plea in Supreme Court Seeks 30% Quota for Women Lawyers in Law Officer Posts

A petition has been filed before the Supreme Court seeking 30% reservation for women lawyers in government law officer positions, state central panels, and Public Sector Undertakings.

The Bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant heard the matter, noting that no woman has ever been appointed as the Attorney General or Solicitor General of India.

The petitioner argued that institutional government panels function as crucial feeder pools for judicial elevations, and structural barriers have led to a sharp decline of women in positions of professional authority.

The Court acknowledged the difficulties faced by female advocates and listed the matter for further hearing next week.
