Plea in Supreme Court Seeks Action Against PM Modi for Alleged MCC Violation

A plea has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking action against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for an alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct during a televised address on April 18, 2026.

The petitioner, claims the Prime Minister misused state-funded media and official machinery for electoral gain by criticizing opposition parties by name.

The plea alleges this broadcast violates the Representation of the People Act, 1951, and the Model Code of Conduct currently in force for ongoing Assembly elections.

It seeks directions for the Election Commission of India to issue a show-cause notice and remove the broadcast from official platforms.
