Ashwini Upadhyay Moves SC Seeking Mandatory Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls Before All Elections

  • Case Name: Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay v. UOI

BJP leader Ashwini Upadhyay has filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court seeking directions to the Election Commission to conduct mandatory Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls before every Lok Sabha, Assembly, and Local Body Elections, citing demographic shifts since Independence.

The plea also seeks directions to states to act against those aiding infiltrators by providing fake documents.

Referring to Article 324 of the Constitution and Section 21(3) of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, Upadhyay warns of illegal immigrants, duplicate entries, and ghost voters, particularly in Bihar.

He argued the last SIR in Bihar was in 2003, and a fresh revision is long overdue. The matter may be listed on July 10.
