A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court urging the Indian government to intervene diplomatically to save Malayali nurse Nimisha Priya, who faces execution in Yemen on July 16.
Filed by the Save Nimisha Priya Action Council, the plea seeks directions to open negotiations for "blood money" under Shariat law, which could allow her release if the victim’s family agrees.
Priya was convicted of killing her former employer, whom she had accused of abuse.
Senior Advocate Raghenth Basant highlighted the urgency, and the Court agreed to list the matter on July 14, leaving a narrow window for intervention.
