  • Case Name: Balram Singh & ors. v. Union of India
  • Judge(s): CJI Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar
  • Advocate(s): Dr. Subramanian Swamy, Balram Singh & ors.

A PIL has been filed to challenge the 42nd Amendment of 1976, which introduced "secular" and "socialist" to the Preamble.

The Petitioner argued that the terms conflict with India’s cultural essence and religious freedom.

The SC bench confirmed secularism as a core constitutional principle and also refused to involve a larger bench.

The Supreme Court will deliver its final verdict tomorrow i.e., 25th November 2024.
