A three-member Supreme Court-appointed panel has recommended initiating removal proceedings against Justice Yashwant Varma of the Allahabad High Court after finding serious misconduct.
The panel’s report, based on statements from over 55 witnesses and direct and electronic evidence, confirmed that large amounts of burnt and unburnt cash were found in the storeroom of Justice Varma’s official residence, to which only he and his family had access.
The panel noted Justice Varma did not provide a plausible explanation or report the incident, and concluded the misconduct was grave enough to warrant removal.
