Karnataka High Court Allows Proton Mail to Appeal Against Direction For Blocking Its Services In India

  • Case Name: Proton AG v. M Moser Design Associations (India) Pvt. Ltd. and ors

The Karnataka High Court has issued notice in Proton Mail’s appeal against a single-judge order directing the government to initiate blocking of the service under Section 69A of the IT Act, 2000.

The directive followed a petition by M Moser Design Associates concerning “vulgar and defamatory” emails sent via Proton Mail

Proton Mail contended it was not properly served and said it cooperated by acting under the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty.

The court sought responses from the Centre, M Moser, and Proton, and adjourned the matter to July 3. The government clarified that the service is not yet blocked and is under committee review.
