The Punjab and Haryana High Court has sought a response from the Central Government and other authorities on a PIL seeking a ban on online betting and wagering platforms.
Filed by lawyer Anuj Malik, the plea argues such activities violate the Public Gambling Act, Section 112 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Haryana Prevention of Public Gambling Act, 2025.
Additionally, it highlights breaches of the Information Technology Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code, 2021 (amended in 2023).
The petition also seeks action against platforms using celebrities to promote illegal gambling activities, with the next hearing scheduled for May 20.
