Jail Not Mandatory in All Economic Offences: Punjab & Haryana High Court

The Punjab & Haryana High Court has ruled that jail is not the rule in all economic offences, and bail should not be denied solely because the offence is economic in nature.

Justice Manisha Batra emphasized that courts must consider the gravity of each case individually, noting that there is no legislative bar or legal presumption against bail in such matters.

The Court granted bail in a tax evasion case, observing that when allegations are not serious and evidence is largely documentary, continued detention is not justified.
