The Punjab and Haryana High Court has upheld the premature retirement of ASI Sukhpal Singh by the Punjab DGP, ruling that courts cannot infringe on the authority’s right under the Civil Services (Premature Retirement) Rules, 1975.
Though no prior notice was served, the court said the officer is entitled to three months' salary. Singh had completed over 25 years of service, but his record included four major punishments, 17 bad entries, and 793 days of absence.
He is also facing criminal charges. The court found the retirement order was justified in the public interest.
