The Punjab & Haryana High Court dismissed a plea by an advocate seeking financial assistance from the Bar Council under Section 6 of the Advocates Act, 1961.
The petitioner, identifying herself as an unestablished lawyer, requested reimbursement of medical bills, travel expenses, rent, and personal security costs.
However, the Division Bench held that Section 6(2)(a) is merely an enabling provision and does not create a legal right for individual advocates to such benefits.
Since no vested right was shown, the Court ruled that a writ of mandamus could not be issued and dismissed the petition. (Ravneet Kaur v. Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana and Anr)
