The Punjab government informed the Punjab & Haryana High Court that judicial officers can now opt for the Old Pension Scheme.
Officers in the Punjab Higher Judicial Service and district judiciary have a 3-month window from May 23 to choose; otherwise, they will remain under the New Defined Contributory Pension Scheme(2004).
The Court was hearing a plea by 23 officers recruited before the new scheme's 2003 cutoff. The bench recorded the state’s assurance and directed the wide circulation of the decision.
Eligible officers’ choices will be implemented within 60 days after the deadline, under the Punjab (Unamended) Pension Rules.
