Punjab Police Lodges FIRs Over Casteist Posts Targeting CJI B.R. Gavai

Punjab Police have registered multiple FIRs under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against unidentified individuals for objectionable social media posts targeting Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai.

The posts allegedly contained caste-based slurs and abusive language. Complaints noted that the content was contemptuous and had the potential to incite communal or caste tensions.

Police stated that investigations would involve cybercrime units to trace the perpetrators and hold them accountable. The incident highlights the growing online threats faced by judicial figures and underscores the need for strict enforcement of contempt and cyber laws to protect the judiciary’s dignity.
