The Rajasthan government, through its Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, defended the inclusion of transgender persons under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category for education and public sector jobs before the High Court.
The government submitted that the reservation policy falls within the domain of executive and legislative competence and argued that the petitioner failed to provide statistical evidence showing that a separate horizontal reservation for transgender persons would ensure proportionate representation.
The Court noted these submissions, and the matter is listed for further hearing on October 15.
