Rajasthan High Court Invites the Bar’s Views On Police-Initiated Bank Account Seizures

The Rajasthan High Court has sought inputs from bar members on whether a bank account can be frozen solely on a police letter without following Section 102 CrPC.

Justice Anoop Kumar Dhand was hearing a plea by a man whose account was seized by Bank of Maharashtra allegedly on such a request by a police officer.

The petitioner argued this practice is rampant, citing a Chennai Police circular prescribing due process, absent in Rajasthan.

Observing the issue needs wider deliberation, the Court listed the matter for August 18 and issued a general notice to the Bar.
