Rajasthan High Court: Teli Caste Members Can't Be Denied OBC Reservation for Being Muslim

  • Case Name: Sattar Khan v Zila Parishad & Anr.

The Rajasthan High Court ruled that individuals from the "Teli" caste cannot be denied OBC reservation solely for being from the Muslim community.

The court found that the caste, traditionally associated with oil pressing, includes members from various religions, including Hinduism and Islam.

It emphasized that caste-based reservations apply to all members of the Teli caste, regardless of their religion, as per Rajasthan's gazette notifications.

The petitioner, a Muslim Teli, had been denied employment under the OBC category, but the court directed the state to grant employment, reinforcing the inclusive interpretation of the OBC category for Teli caste members.
