Rajasthan High Court Clarifies Biology in Class 11 Not Mandatory for NEET Admission

The Rajasthan High Court held that Biology in Class 11 is not compulsory for MBBS admission, granting relief to a candidate who cleared NEET-UG after taking Biology as an additional subject in Class 12.

Relying on the National Medical Commission’s 2023 public notice and its Information Booklet, the Court observed that Biology in both Classes 11 and 12 is no longer required for eligibility

The Court further noted that the phrase “after passing Class 12th” in the NMC notice was a drafting error, and cannot be used to deny eligibility to candidates who have completed the required subjects.

Accordingly, the State was directed to consider the petitioner’s candidature and grant admission within one week.
