Rajasthan High Court Directs State to Prevent Caste-Based Discrimination at Cremation Grounds

The Rajasthan High Court has ordered the state government to ensure no caste-based discrimination occurs during funerals, following reports of certain communities being denied access to cremation grounds.

The court emphasised that the right to dignity extends beyond death and directed authorities to take strict action against those enforcing such discriminatory practices.

The court thus directed the Additional Advocate General to file an affidavit stating the stand of the State on whether a common approach could be devised to address the situation without creating disharmony or damaging the social fabric.

This interim order aims to uphold constitutional values and prevent social exclusion in the last rites. The matter has been listed after two weeks.
