The Rajasthan High Court, taking suo motu notice of rising dog bite incidents and stray animal risks, has ordered municipal bodies in cities like Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Udaipur to launch a special drive to remove stray dogs and other animals from roads, ensuring minimal harm to them.
The Court warned authorities that anyone obstructing the effort could face criminal charges, including FIRs for obstructing public servants. Authorities must also set up complaint hotlines and encourage public feeding or care only at official shelters or gaushalas.
Road safety and highways departments were directed to maintain regular patrols.
The matter is listed for further hearing on September 8.
