Rajasthan High Court Halts Construction, Mining and Unregulated Tourism in Jawai Leopard Reserve

The Rajasthan High Court imposed an immediate halt on construction, mining, and unregulated tourism activities in the ecologically sensitive Jawai Leopard Reserve near Sumerpur in Pali district.

The Court observed that interference with leopard habitats violates constitutional obligations linked to environmental protection and Article 21 of the Constitution.

A bench of Justices Pushpendra Singh Bhati and Sandeep Shah also directed the State Government to examine the feasibility of declaring the Jawai region a wildlife sanctuary under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.

The Court further restrained fresh tourism licences, continued the ban on night safaris, and ordered implementation of strict eco-tourism SOPs.
