The Rajasthan High Court quashed the rejection of a student’s application under the Swami Vivekananda Scholarship for Academic Excellence, holding that an applicant cannot be forced to resign from employment before being provisionally selected.
Justice Anoop Kumar Dhand said scholarships are “life-changing opportunities” and students should not be made to suffer due to delays caused by the State.
The petitioner’s application, filed in May 2024, was rejected in March 2025 for not resigning before his course began in September 2024.
The Court directed the State to release the fees if the student resigns within seven days.
