In a recent case before the Bombay HC, HDFC Life Insurance Co Ltd. sought relief after a ransomware attack and a threat to leak confidential data.
The court granted ad-interim relief to the insurance company, citing relevant IT Rules. A John Doe order was also issued, allowing the company to take legal action against the unidentified perpetrator.
The bench further directed Meta, WhatsApp, and Telegram to remove accounts, content, and phone numbers linked to the cyber fraud.
The company also relied on a precedent set in the National Stock Exchange of India Ltd. vs. Meta Platforms, Inc. (2024), where the court granted interim protection against trademark infringement and misleading advertisements by unknown entities.
