Kerala High Court judge Justice P.B. Suresh Kumar, speaking at his farewell ceremony on June 27, warned that misleading social media posts can significantly undermine public trust in the judiciary.
He highlighted that such comments, often made without legal or factual context, can tarnish the institution's reputation. He urged the need for legislative measures that balance free speech under Article 19(1)(a) with judicial independence under Article 50.
The judge clarified he wasn’t against fair criticism but warned that constant online commentary can mislead the public and erode faith in the rule of law.
He also praised technological advances in court processes, like e‑hearings and digital records, while cautioning against replacing human judgment entirely
