Justice Madan B Lokur, a retired Supreme Court Judge, has been appointed chairperson of the United Nations Internal Justice Council (UNIJC) for a four-year term, The council comprises distinguished jurists from around the world.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed his pleasure in appointing Justice Lokur as the Chairperson for a term ending November 12, 2028.
Justice Lokur was born in 1953. He was appointed a Supreme Court judge on June 4, 2012, and resigned on December 30, 2018. In 2019, he became the first Indian Judge to be appointed as a SC judge of Fiji.
